Bill Tindall - The man who brought quality to the moon program

Apparently, Gene Kranz once said “if there should have been a lunar plaque left on the Moon from somebody in Mission Control or Flight Control - it should have been for Bill Tindall. Tindall was the guy who put all the pieces together, and all we did is execute them.”

Bill Tindall was sent to MIT by NASA to oversee the development of the space guidance software for the Apollo program.

The now famous "tindallgrams" are a collection of frank memos written by Bill Tindall explaining the problems of the whole software development process. An example below.

It is fascinating to see how issues such as requirements, defects, etc were handled in the early 1960's, especially when software development was in its infancy. The link provides you access to more "tindallgrams"

In my opinion, Bill Tindall should be considered as the father of Software Quality Assurance.
